Dr. Steve Malone of the University of Washington will give a presentation on Cascade volcanoes on Oct. 16 as part of the Adventure & Conservation Speaker Series in Olympia.
Malone, who works in the Department of Earth and Space Science, will use photos from Mount St. Helens, Mount Baker and Mount Rainier to talk about and illustrate past and potential future volcanic activity in “The Secret Life of Volcanoes.”
He’ll also talk about a large-scale experiment planned to start next year called Image Magma Under St. Helens. The four-year project will use some of the latest technology to determine the architecture of the magma under the volcano.
The program will be 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Olympia REI, 625 Black Lake Blvd. SW, Suite 410, Olympia.
