THURSday’s highlights
Haley Smoot and Reanna Clemenson scored two goals apiece, and Puyallup stayed atop the SPSL South girls soccer standings with a 5-0 victory over Bethel at Art Crate Field. Smoot’s first tally in the 25th minute was the winner. Ashley Home and Peyton Whalen shared the shutout in goal.
Megan Anderson tallied an unassisted goal in the 55th minute, and Beamer avenged an earlier loss by defeating Curtis, 1-0, in Federal Way. Casey Woehrle earned the shutout.
Reigning 3A state runner-up Bainbridge Island won 10 out of 12 events and beat host Gig Harbor, 117-69, in a non-league girls swimming meet. Carolyn McCann contributed both victories for the Tides in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.44) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.39).
Steilacoom’s Heze Allen (16:51) won the boys race, Sumner’s Abi Hensler (19:48) won the girls, and the Spartans won both teams titles at a dual cross country meet at Fort Steilacoom Park.
Catherina Li took home medalist honors after shooting a 1-under-par 35 to help Kentwood defeat SPSL North rival Kentlake, 124-86, at Meridian Valley in Kent.
Federal Way’s Mitch Stewart (6-0, 6-0) and Alex Lewis (6-0, 6-0) won in singles, but Curtis swept the doubles matches to beat the Eagles in an SPSL South matchup, 3-2.
Wilson’s Soujornah Channel had 10 kills and 13 digs, and Rachel Russell had 24 assists to help the Rams beat Narrows 3A volleyball foe Mount Tahoma, 25-16, 25-12, 21-25, 27-25. The Thunderbirds were led by Briana Pressley’s 10 kills and Aliyah Carector’s 18 assists.
