UPDATE as of 5:06 p.m.: The fire is about 20 percent contained, according public information officer Bruce Livingston. He said no homes are being threatened, to his knowledge. About 60 to 70 people were fighting the blaze, which is about three miles out of Elby, toward Mount Rainier near Ashford, Livingston said. The ground in the area is very steep, he said. Helicopters will continue to drop water on the blaze until this evening, and crews will watch the fire overnight and return in full-force tomorrow, he said.
