Man wanted for alleged abduction, slaying of Lakewood man is arrested, charged

A 30-year-old man wanted in connection with the abduction, robbery and strangulation of a Lakewood man whose body was dumped in Graham was booked into the Pierce County Jail on Monday.

Jeffrey Powell II has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree robbery in the death of 51-year-old Dean Barker.

Pierce County prosecutors allege Powell was among seven people who attacked Barker on Sept. 7 at a home in South Tacoma. His body was found the next day outside an unoccupied home for sale in the 22200 block of 12th Avenue East.

Six of the seven have pleaded not guilty – Aileenah Horton, 17; William Barry, 33; Angela King, 32; Joshua Stevens, 23; Justin Mahaffey, 23; and John Joseph Brown, 60.
