A 79-year-old Tacoma man who went missing Sunday while mushroom picking in a heavily forested area south of Randle was found safe Tuesday.
Searchers found Dapeng Tang at 2 p.m. about a mile from a base camp where volunteers were staying. He was dehydrated and exhausted, but suffered no serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
Officials said they are unsure why Tang didn’t hear or respond to search units that were calling his name and blowing whistles.
Yang’s family reported him missing Sunday morning after they became separated off of Forest Service Road 26 near Strawberry Mountain.
