Thursday’s highlights
Foss’ Emma Chard’s state-qualifying time in the 100 backstroke (1:02.88) helped her earn a spot in racing in all eight individual events during the state tournament – also known as “The Super” or “Iron Lady”. Chard also had a state qualifying time in the 50 free-style (24.74) to help the Narrows 3A Falcons’ win 118-57 over Lincoln.
Decatur’s Carsten Olufson earned medalist honors after shooting an even-par 36 at Twin Lakes, but the SPSL 3A Golden Gators lost to league foe Auburn Mountainview, 73-69. Vincent Vu was the Lions’ low golfer with a 2-over 38.
Sumner’s Kai Taylor and Carson Dunham were co-medalist after shooting 2-over 38s at Linden Country Club to help give the Spartans beat Fife, 72-35, in a SPSL 2A boys golf match at Linden Country Club.
Abby Hensler’s (20:53) first-place finish helped secure Sumner’s SPSL 2A girls cross country victory over league opponents White River and Orting. In the boys’ , White River’s Chris Fisher (17:10) came in first to help give the Hornets a win in their matchups against Sumner and Orting.
