A polar bear plunge this weekend in Tacoma will raise money for Special Olympics Washington.
A polar bear plunge held Saturday at Owen Beach in Point Defiance Park raised more than $70,500 for the Special Olympics, organizer Ed Troyer said.
For about 10 crazy minutes on Saturday, you could see why Billy Stocking used to get such a charge out of being the Seattle Mariner Moose.
The Puyallup Vikings may have defeated the Rogers Rams 26-21 in a match-up between Special Olympics basketball teams this past Thursday night, but the final score wasn’t the focus of the evening. A contingent of nearly 900 fans were attendance for the annual ‘Pack the Gym’ game between rival schools on the basketball court.
Puyallup High School senior Jacob Howard, a self proclaimed basketball enthusiast, didn’t hesitate to don a coaching hat for the first time in his life for the Vikings squad.
“Choosing to volunteer with the Special Olympics basketball is probably one of the best decisions of my life,” Howard said. “These players always have a smile on their face no matter what and are so positive.”
