An Amtrak Cascades train hit a pickup truck Monday night about 19 miles south of Tacoma on Joint Base Lewis-McChord land, killing the driver, according to JBLM spokeswoman Brendalyn Carpenter.

The train left Seattle at 5:30 p.m. on its way to Portland and had about 153 passengers on board during the accident just before 7 p.m. at Solo Point, according to Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham.

No one on the train was injured.

The base had not released information about the victim, Carpenter said.

The train remained on base as crews investigated, Graham said. She did not have an estimate for when it would continue toward Portland.
