A 36-year-old man was taken into custody about 10 p.m. Tuesday at La Quinta Inn & Suites on East 27th Street after a police standoff that lasted several hours.

Fife police had planned to arrest the man on a warrant for failing to check in with his community custody officer and got a tip that he was at the hotel, Cmdr. Tim Floyd said.

They arrived about 4 p.m., and Tacoma police teams were called after the man made threats through the door of his room, police said. Some floors were locked down for several hours as negotiators talked with a man, Fife police reported.

It doesn’t appear that the man was armed, Floyd said. A woman in the room was detained for questioning, he said. No one was hurt.
