South Sound gas prices have fallen more than five cents a gallon since this time last week and appear, at least for now, headed below $4 a gallon.
According to The News Tribune’s Gas Deal Finder, www.thenewstribune.com/gasprices, the average price Tuesday was $4.053 in the Tacoma area. Gas prices here hit 4.11 a gallon last week before dropping again.
But prices have descended before in recent weeks, only to bounce upward again. On Sept., 26, for instance, local prices averaged $3.97 a gallon, but they moved upward in response to refinery and pipeline problems in California.
Some drivers report huge differences in prices at local stations. The lowest price in the area is $3.82 at a Bonney Lake Fred Meyer. That compares with $4.29 a gallon for gas in nearby Buckley, nearly a 50-cent difference.
