Outgoing state Auditor Brian Sonntag plans to join the Rescue Mission as its chief financial officer when his term ends.

The Rescue Mission provides 1,000 meals a day to the hungry, shelter for 800 displaced and homeless people, and drug and alcohol rehabilitation in a Christian-based environment, according to a news release from the organization. It was founded in 1912 to serve homeless men in Tacoma; it now serves all people in need at six Pierce County locations.

“The CFO position is a great opportunity to continue serving my community – and in the city where I grew up – after 40 years of public service in both Pierce County and state government,” Sonntag said in the release.

Sonntag was elected state auditor in 1992; he previously was Pierce County’s auditor.
