A 19-year-old Pierce County man pleaded guilty Friday to one misdemeanor count of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation for having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Zachary Troyer was sentenced to 10 days of electronic home monitoring and 40 hours of community service.

The girl let Troyer into her home on numerous occasions in March after her parents were asleep, court records show. The girl’s mother awoke one night and found Troyer in the house. Not knowing him, she woke her husband and then called 911. The husband tackled Troyer and held him until police arrived, the records show.

Both Troyer and the girl later admitted a sexual relationship. It is illegal in Washington for someone 18 or older to have sex with a person between 14 and 16 if the adult is at least four years older than the alleged victim.

Troyer originally was charged with third-degree child rape and third-degree child molestation.

The case was filed in Pierce County Superior Court but prosecuted by the state Attorney General’s Office because Troyer is the adopted son of sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.
