On the Road: Harvest Festival
When: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday
Where: Cama Beach State Park, Camano Island
What: Visitors can embrace autumn at the Cama Beach State Park harvest festival. Family activities include pumpkin and mask decorating, nature design T-shirt painting, fall foliage fabric designing, education about animals that live on the beach and games.
Learn about the park: Visitors can uncover the secrets of the state park when playing a detective game by searching for clues about the ocean, forest and boathouse at the park. There will be other activities that will teach participants about mussels and other shellfish.
Raffle: Visitors can purchase $1 tickets for the Cama Beach Stars quilt. The drawing will be during the festival. Raffle proceeds will support educational programs at Cama Beach and Camano Island state parks.
About the park: The 433-acre park is on the southwest shore of Camano Island facing Saratoga Passage. It was the site of a 1930s-era fishing resort complete with waterfront cedar cabins and bungalows. They have been refurbished with modern conveniences. They are available for rent year-round to individuals and groups. The park is connected by a mile-long trail to Camano Island State Park, a 134-acre camping park.
Cost: A Discover Pass is needed for parking in state parks, but otherwise the event is free.
