Expert returns
Even though Auburn High’s Harold Lee (head) is out this week against Auburn Riverside, the senior cornerback has shown a big-play knack on returns. He has five touchdowns (SPSL single-season record three interceptions, one punt, one kickoff) on returns in eight games.
Rivalry weekend
It is not only rivalry week around Parkland for the PLU-UPS showdown Saturday, but it’s also for Washington and Franklin Pierce high schools tonight. One other tidbit – Patriots coach Mike Von Rueden played at UPS, and Cardinals coach Howard Lutton went to PLU.
A Puyallup happening
Between them, Puyallup and Rogers have captured 23 SPSL 4A league or division titles in football since 1968. Tonight they play each other for something just as important – a guaranteed spot in the district playoffs. The winner will be the SPSL South’s No. 4 seed.
Kings of Tacoma
Jon Kitna and the Lincoln Abes have already stamped their ticket to the 3A playoffs. Tonight, they could also claim city bragging rights if they beat Foss at Lincoln Bowl. Earlier, Lincoln defeated Stadium (56-13), Mount Tahoma (55-0) and Wilson (28-18).
Two at 2,000 yards
It could be quite a race to the finish for the state’s rushing title in 2012. Shelton’s Ralph Kinne (2,092 yards) had been leading much of the year but was passed last week by Blaine’s Mario Gobbato (2,105). Blaine plays at Nooksack Valley tonight while Shelton is at Timberline.
