Residents of the Bethel School District can hear about proposed adjustments to attendance boundaries for middle and high schools at a community forum set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria of Liberty Middle School, 7319 Eustis Hunt Road, Spanaway.
If approved, the changes will take effect at the start of the 2013-14 school year.
The Spanaway-based school district plans to adjust boundaries to alleviate overcrowding and to accommodate a shift to middle schools for students in grades six through eight, which the School Board approved Oct. 9.
Bethel’s middle schools are less crowded this year, serving students in only grades seven and eight, while ninth-graders already have moved from the former junior highs to the district’s high schools.
The district’s Secondary School Boundary Committee has been studying a change in middle and high school attendance areas. Some members will attend Thursday’s forum to help explain the draft proposal.
Maps of the proposed boundaries can be viewed at www.bethelsd.org. Go to the Current Topics box and click on the Secondary Boundary Study link. Written comments can be sent to Rob Van Slyke, Bethel School District, 516 176th St. E., Spanaway, 98387-8399.
