The Seattle Seahawks placed veteran wide receiver Ben Obomanu on the season-ending injured reserve list Tuesday because of a wrist injury he suffered Sunday against Detroit.
To bolster their depth at receiver, the Seahawks signed former Lakes High School and University of Washington standout Jermaine Kearse from the practice squad.
They also released cornerback Danny Gorrer and signed offensive lineman Mike Person, who also had been on the practice squad.
Seattle then added receiver Phil Bates to the team’s practice squad. He was with the Seahawks during training camp.
Kearse had been playing well against Seattle’s No. 1 defense during practices.
The 6-foot-1, 209-pound Kearse has the versatility to play both inside as a slot receiver and on the perimeter.
Person, a Montana State University product, is listed as a tackle but can play guard and center.
A seventh-round draft choice by Seattle in 2006, Obomanu has played in 66 games for the Seahawks – including 13 starts – posting 87 receptions for 1,209 yards and seven touchdowns. He also has had an impact on special teams, with 25 tackles and one fumble recovery.
Obomanu, who turned 29 on Tuesday, had four catches for 58 yards in eight games this season. He finished second on the team in catches in 2011, with 37 for 436 yards and two touchdowns.
