The Bethel School Board is accepting applications to fill the seat of School Board member Ron Morehouse, who resigned Oct. 22.

To be eligible, an applicant must live within the boundaries of the school district’s Director District No. 1. An applicant also must be a citizen of the United States and be a registered voter within the director district.

To see District No. 1 boundaries and application materials, go online to www.bethelsd.org and click on the item labeled School Board vacancy, Director District 1.

The application deadline is Nov. 30. The school board plans to appoint someone to fill Morehouse’s seat by Dec. 11.

The appointee will serve until the regular School Board election in November 2013, when he or she can run for the office to retain the seat.

Morehouse was elected in 2009.

In his letter to the board, Morehouse said he cannot fulfill his commitment as board member due to “personal reasons.” He did say that he would still like to volunteer for a district committee that is looking at advanced programs for high school students, and that he would like to continue working to help students get into college.
