Initial reports to troopers about 4 p.m. of someone in a bumblebee costume on the Interstate 5 overpass at South 48th Street made more sense when dispatchers explained a small child had thrown a tree branch onto the freeway.
BELLINGHAM - A local American Legion post will conduct a flag retirement ceremony on Friday, June 14. Meanwhile, the Whatcom Tea Party will wave flags along freeway overpasses that afternoon to celebrate Flag Day.
The retirement ceremony will be conducted by Bellingham Post No. 7 of the American Legion at its hall, 1688 W. Bakerview Road. While the ceremony starts at 7 p.m., food is available starting at 5 p.m.
Old, unserviceable flags may be brought to the post for retirement in advance of the ceremony or to the event.
