Kansas State coach Bill Snyder is hopeful injured quarterback Collin Klein will be available for Saturday’s game at TCU.
The Heisman Trophy contender was hurt during the third quarter of the No. 3 Wildcats’ 44-30 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday. Snyder did not discuss the nature or severity of the injury, but all indications point toward a possible concussion.
Klein lay on the turf for several seconds after scoring his 50th career rushing touchdown for the Wildcats.
When asked about Klein on Monday, Snyder replied: “Seems fine to me.” And when asked whether he’ll play against the Horned Frogs, Snyder said: “Hope so.”
HOG SUSPENDED
Arkansas linebacker Terrell Williams is suspended indefinitely following his weekend arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated.
According to a preliminary Fayetteville police report, Williams’ vehicle crossed the center line before he was pulled over early Sunday morning — hours after the Razorbacks’ 19-15 victory over Tulsa. Williams refused a blood-alcohol test after failing a field-sobriety test and was “uncooperative” and “very argumentative.”
Interim Arkansas coach John L. Smith immediately suspended the senior, and he wasn’t prepared to offer a more specific timetable on Monday.
“I don’t even want to talk to him right now,” Smith said. “If you have that little compassion, respect, love for your teammates, it’s hard for me to show compassion, love for you, if that makes sense.
The 21-year-old is the fourth Arkansas player arrested since Smith’s hiring in April.
EXTRA POINTS
Boise State senior nose tackle Mike Atkinson will miss the rest of the season after tearing an ACL in Saturday’s 21-19 loss at home against San Diego State. His 37 tackles rank sixth on the team and he has two forced fumbles and one interception return for a touchdown. … Kentucky officials say that fired coach Joker Phillips will be on the sideline for the Wildcats’ final two regular-season games. … Maryland middle linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield, the team’s leading tackler, is out for the season with a torn ACL. It’s the latest in a series of serious injuries for the Terrapins, who have already lost four quarterbacks and starting wide receiver Marcus Leak for the season. … Campbell has fired football coach Dale Steele amid a seven-game losing streak. … Nebraska coach Bo Pelini says Rex Burkhead’s status for this week’s game against Penn State is unclear. The All-Big Ten running back has missed all or part of seven games because of an injury to his left knee. Burkhead, originally hurt in the opener against Southern Mississippi, is among seven running backs in Nebraska history to run for 3,000 career yards.
