A 24-year-old Kent man accused of abusing his infant twins has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault of a child.
Bail was set at $250,000 for Jason Dodd, who is to be arraigned Nov. 19.
Police began investigating Dodd on Nov. 1 after one of his 7-week-old babies was brought to Seattle Children’s Hospital because the boy was gagging and spitting up blood, according to charging papers.
Doctors noticed the infant had an abrasion, notified police and told a detective the boy bled so much he could have died.
Dodd told the children’s mother he had tried to put a pacifier in the baby’s mouth and when the infant refused it, he stuck his finger in the boy’s mouth, according to the charging documents.
He later told detectives he stuck his finger in his son’s mouth up to the knuckle – applying 5 to 6 pounds of pressure – because the child wouldn’t stop crying, court records show.
According to a criminal complaint, Dodd admitted to shaking and squeezing both infants on several occasions.
His infant daughter was evaluated, and doctors said she had two fractured ribs.
