Manitou Park Elementary principal honored for leadership

The National Association of Elementary School Principals recently recognized Mary Wilson, principal at Manitou Park Elementary School, with Tacoma’s 2013 Distinguished Principal Award. The award program recognizes excellence in school leadership.

The National Association of Elementary School Principals recently recognized Mary Wilson, principal at Manitou Park Elementary School, with Tacoma’s 2013 Distinguished Principal Award. The award program recognizes excellence in school leadership.

The award criteria include leading a school where a commitment to excellence is clearly evident and showing evidence of increased or consistently high levels of student achievement as demonstrated on statewide assessments.

Candidates must be active principals for at least five years.

    The principal of Mesa Elementary School and his son will be two of 44 honorees at the ninth annual Governor's Volunteer Service Awards on Thursday.

    Obadiah and Levi DeWeber were nominated for the honor for sharing their musical talents at community events that promote literacy and safety, according to a release from Regional Service Corps-Americorps program.

    Obadiah DeWeber, who was formerly a vice principal in the Pasco School District, also has served as an AmeriCorps Site supervisor for four years and helped out at Family Involvement Nights in Pasco.
