The Chicago Bears signed veteran journeyman Josh McCown on Tuesday in the wake of quarterback Jay Cutler's concussion.

Cutler missed the second half of Sunday night's 13-6 setback to Houston and his status for Monday's game in San Francisco is uncertain.

McCown, 33, is familiar with the Chicago offense, having started the Bears' final two games last season after Cutler was sidelined with a broken thumb.

Selected by Arizona in the third round of the 2002 draft, McCown has thrown for 6,998 yards with 37 touchdowns and 44 interceptions in 50 games (33 starts) with the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders, Panthers and Bears.

To make room for McCown, the Bears waived tight end Brody Eldridge.
