It doesn’t rank with Veterans Day, Independence Day or even Columbus Day in the hierarchy of holidays, but a Tacoma-based business wants to raise the profile of National Pickle Day with a special Tacoma event.
That family business, Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles, is hosting a city-wide “pickle hunt” today to celebrate the holiday and gain recognition for a group of Tacoma’s hometown businesses.
Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles produces pickles according to an old family recipe and sells them in more than four dozen stores along the West Coast and on the Internet.
Here’s how the pickle hunt will work: A total of eight jars of pickles will be placed in local businesses and at historic Tacoma monuments for fans to locate.
Some $1,200 in prizes will be awarded to winners.
To launch the pickle hunt, Tacoma’s Mayor Marilyn Strickland will announce the first clue for the location of the first jar of pickles on her Facebook page at 10 a.m.
The seven remaining clues will be posted every half hour on the Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles Facebook page.
Each jar of pickles will be worth at least $50 in cash prizes and gift cards from local businesses. In order to win a prize pack, fans must locate a jar of pickles, take a picture of the jar at the location and post the image on Facebook, tagging Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles in the picture.
Other participating local businesses include: Katie Downs, The Ollin, Celebrity Cake Studio, Chuckals Office Supply, Rainier Connect, Wingman Brewery, Luv Handles, Veggies Northwest, Doyle’s Public House, FishWife Salmon, Wish Candles, Grassfed Direct, Westgate Physical Therapy and Exercise, Point Defiance Zoo, McPhee Dental Group and the Murano Hotel.
“As the owner of Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles, I am excited to share my love for pickles with all those in the area,” said Lynnae Schneller, president of Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles.
“This is the perfect opportunity to not only taste our pickles, but also sample some of the products from other businesses in Tacoma.”
To conclude the National Pickle Day, Lynnae’s Gourmets Pickles invites all to a happy hour at Doyle’s Public House from 3-6 p.m. where Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickleback shots will be served.
