Colleges are great places to find free events because it gives students a chance to hone their skills and visiting professionals a chance to share their talents. This weekend you can hear one of Tacoma’s best pianists, Tanya Stambuk, play the Brahms’ Piano Concerto no. 1 in a free concert with the Tacoma Community College orchestra.
Professor of piano at the University of Puget Sound, Stambuk plays often around the Northwest with groups such as the Tacoma Symphony, Finisterra Trio, and Second City Chamber Music. Her international career has included performances with the Orchestre de Toulouse in France, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and various European festivals. She has recorded many of the works of American composer Norman Dello Joio.
Under conductor John Falskow, the orchestra will also play Beethoven’s lighthearted, joyful Symphony no. 1.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at the TCC Building 2 Auditorium at South 12th and Mildred streets. While admission is free, donations will be accepted. 253-460-4374, tacomacc.edu
