Question: When is the Murray Morgan Bridge going to open? – Thomas, Tacoma

Answer: The end of December, if all goes well.

The $57 million renovation project was delayed for several weeks this fall because of difficulties encountered in replacing the 16-foot drawbridge spools, or “sheaves,” on top of the bridge.

Even so, the city’s project manager, Tom Rutherford, said the contractor is still pushing to meet the December opening goal.

That should leave time to get ready for the bridge’s 100th anniversary. The 11th Street Bridge, as it was originally called, opened Feb. 15, 1913.
