A dog that attended a Puyallup pet expo earlier this month has died from parvovirus, according to event organizers.
Officials of America’s Family Pet Expo-Puyallup posted on the event’s Facebook page Friday that they didn’t know how or when the virus was contracted.
The event was Nov. 3-4 at the Puyallup Fair & Events Center, 110 Ninth Ave. SW.
Organizers said they would review procedures for next year’s expo as they get more information about the case.
Dogs show signs of the disease within 10 days of exposure, said Joan Zielinski, secretary for the Puyallup Valley Dog Fanciers, which is a member organization of the American Kennel Club.
Signs that an animal has parvovirus and needs to go to a veterinarian include lethargy, diarrhea and not eating, Zielinski said.
“It can be a very deadly disease and is readily passed along to any animal who isn’t inoculated against it,” she said.
