BUD SELIG APPROVES: MARLINS-BLUE JAYS TRADE: :

The Miami Marlins’ trade of All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes to the Toronto Blue Jays, along with pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson, catcher John Buck and outfielder Emilio Bonifacio for seven players, none of whom has a big-money contract, received final approval from commissioner Bud Selig.

The Miami Marlins’ trade of All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes to the Toronto Blue Jays, along with pitchers Mark Buehrle and Josh Johnson, catcher John Buck and outfielder Emilio Bonifacio for seven players, none of whom has a big-money contract, received final approval from commissioner Bud Selig.

With the trade, the Marlins pared $154 million in payroll, which does not account for cash they agreed to send the Blue Jays.

ICHIRO SAYS NO TO WBC

Former Mariners All-Star Ichiro Suzuki told Japanese baseball officials Monday he has decided not to take part in next year’s World Baseball Classic.

Fellow Japanese major leaguers Yu Darvish (Rangers) and Norichika Aoki (Brewers) have also opted out of the March 2-19 tournament.

Catcher Gerald Laird will get $3 million for his two-year deal with the Braves, and could earn up to $750,000 in performance bonuses. … The Indians signed free agent outfielders Matt Carson and Cedric Hunter to minor league contracts. … The Padres exercised the 2014 and 2015 option years on manager Bud Black’s contract. Also, the Padres agreed with outfielder Kyle Blanks on a $605,000, one-year deal to avoid arbitration. … Right-handed pitcher Shawn Camp agreed to a $1.35 million, one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs.
