Tacoma firefighters put out two house fires on Thanksgiving, but there were no injuries, battalion chief Dale Vaughn reported.

The first blaze was reported at a duplex in the 5600 block of South J Street at 2:40 p.m.

Twenty-six firefighters responded to the call, and they extinguished the blaze in an hour. One the units sustained major damage.

One family evacuated from one of the units. The other family returned home after firefighters arrived. The Red Cross helped one of the families find lodging. Family members or friends took in the other family.

Cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was unavailable Thursday night.

The other fire was reported about 7 p.m. at a fourplex on Idaho Street north of Costco. One unit was damaged, but firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire.

Cause of that fire was not immediately known.
