BP wraps up restructuring of exploration unit

The British oil group BP said Friday that it had appointed Lamar McKay to run its exploration, development and production operations worldwide, as the company wrapped up a restructuring of the unit following the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

The British oil group BP said Friday that it had appointed Lamar McKay to run its exploration, development and production operations worldwide, as the company wrapped up a restructuring of the unit following the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

McKay is taking over from BP’s chief executive, Robert W. Dudley, who took over management of the so-called upstream unit in an effort to improve risk management in the wake of the spill. McKay, who is currently chairman and president of BP America, is to start in his new role at the beginning of next year. He will report to Dudley.

    Bill McKay, dean of CBC's arts and humanities department, will provide music on the piano prior to readings at the event.

  • Bicyclist killed, driver arrested in Kendall Road crash near Maple Falls

    A 36-year-old bicyclist from the Maple Falls area was killed on Kendall Road Saturday evening, Jan. 26, and the driver who hit him was booked into jail for leaving the scene, according to Washington State Patrol.

    Two cyclists -- Steven E. Waterman and Daniel G. McKay, 51 -- were riding in the 8000 block of Kendall Road near Oregon Trail Road about 8:15 p.m. when they were hit by a 1994 Ford Escort. The two-lane road in that area has narrow shoulders and no designated bike lanes.

    Waterman died at the scene, which was about a mile north of the Kendall Road/Mount Baker Highway junction. McKay, who lives in the Maple Falls area, was injured and taken to St. Joseph hospital for treatment, according to state patrol.

    Six avid readers from the Tri-Cities will review novels they admire. Betsy Sivula of Kennewick will introduce Ed Frost, Maureen McQuerry, Scott Shinsato, Matt Taylor, Nancy Brouwer and Fran Delozier at the informal event.

    Lit Fest is celebrating its ninth year of offering author presentations, workshops and writing and poetry competitions, all free to the community. Under the guidance of Columbia Basin College and a Lit Fest committee led by Bill McKay, the spring tribute to literature is made possible by grants and sponsorships.

  • Driver facing charges in death of cyclist near Kendall

    KENDALL - A Maple Falls woman is facing charges of hit and run and vehicular homicide in the death of a bicyclist Saturday night, Jan. 26, on a dark stretch of road in rural Whatcom County.

    Steven E. Waterman, 36, and Daniel G. McKay, 51, were riding about 8:15 p.m. in the 8000 block of Kendall Road near Oregon Trail Road when they were struck by a northbound 1994 Ford Escort driven by 57-year-old Debra G. Peterson, according to a Washington State Patrol report.

    Waterman died at the scene, which was about a mile north of the Kendall Road-Mount Baker Highway junction.
