B y the numbers That is the number of registered boats in Washington in 2011, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. That is down from the 237,921 boats that were registered in 2010. The state requires all motorboats be registered, except those less than 16 feet long with motors 10 horsepower or less used solely on exclusive state waters, and sailboats greater than 16 feet long.

  • Voter registration deadline is March 25 for Ferndale library bond

    Ferndale residents have until Monday, March 25, to register by mail or online - or change their address - for the April 23 election, if they haven't already registered to vote.

    They also can do both in person at the Whatcom County Auditor's Office by 4:30 p.m. on the same date. The address is 311 Grand Ave., Suite 103, Bellingham, in the Whatcom County Courthouse.

    Ferndale voters will decide whether to approve a $550,000 bond to help pay for a new Ferndale library. It needs to be approved by 60 percent or more of the voters to pass.

  • Red Hat Society party deadline is Wednesday

    Deadline to register for the Chapeau Rouge chapter of the Red Hat Society's Spring Tonic party is Wednesday.

    The event, which is open to all ages, is Saturday at the Three Rivers Convention Center. Admission is $35 and registration is required. For tickets, call 783-0841 or 430-6863.
