Rice, Jackson, Hilton named AFC's best for Week 12

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, Cleveland Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and Indianapolis' T.Y. Hilton have been selected as the AFC's top players for Week 12 of the NFL season.

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, Cleveland Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and Indianapolis' T.Y. Hilton have been selected as the AFC's top players for Week 12 of the NFL season.

Rice picked up the offensive award after totaling 67 receiving yards and 97 yards on the ground as the Ravens rallied to beat San Diego in overtime. He helped force overtime by taking a short pass and converting a 4th-and-29 late in the fourth quarter. Six plays later, Justin Tucker nailed the game-tying field goal.

Jackson garnered the defensive honor after posted a team-high nine tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in the Browns' 20-14 win over Pittsburgh. He was part of a unit that registered eight takeaways.

The rookie Hilton was recognized as the top special teams performer after returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in the Colts' 20-13 victory over Buffalo. He also recorded an 8-yard touchdown reception in the game, becoming the first player in Colts history to have a punt-return TD and touchdown reception in the same game.

    Cam Newton passed for two touchdowns and ran in two more as the Carolina Panthers took a 30-22 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in a battle between two last-place teams. Newton finished the game 18-for-28 with 306 yards through the air and added 52 yards on 15 carries for the Panthers (3-8), who snapped a two-game slide but still sit at the bottom of the NFC South, two games back of New Orleans. He went 16- for-21 in the game, but managed just 119 yards as Philadelphia has lost seven straight for the first time since losing the final seven games of the 1994 season and are two games behind Washington and Dallas for last place in the NFC East.

    Michael Bush had two touchdowns on the ground and the Chicago Bears took a 28-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings in an NFC North battle from Soldier Field. Jay Cutler, who returned to play after sitting out last week's loss to San Francisco with a concussion, was 23- for-31 with 188 yards, one touchdowns and one interception for the Bears (8-3), who snapped a two-game skid to move a half-game ahead of Green Bay for first place in the NFC North. The Packers are in action on Sunday night in New York against the Giants. Christian Ponder was 22-for-43 with 159 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Vikings (6-5), who were coming off their bye week and lost for a third time in their past four games. Adrian Peterson carried the ball 18 times for 108 yards in the loss.

    Robert Griffin III posted the biggest win of his rookie season as his touchdown pass in the fourth quarter helped Washington edge New York, 17-16, in an NFC East battle at FedEx Field. With the win, the struggle for the top spot in the division got a little closer as the Giants (7-5) now hold just a one-game lead over the Redskins (6-6) and Cowboys, who defeated the Eagles on Sunday night. Griffin passed for 163 yards on 13-of-21 attempts and added 72 yards on five carries as Washington won its third straight, all against division opponents. Alfred Morris carried the ball 22 times for 124 yards while Pierre Garcon caught eight passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in the win. Eli Manning was 20- for-33 with 280 yards and a touchdown and Martellus Bennett had five catches for 82 yards and a score for the Giants, who have dropped three of their last four. Ahmad Bradshaw totaled 103 yards on 24 carries along with two catches for 13 yards and Victor Cruz grabbed five passes for 104 yards in the loss.

    Despite only passing for 112 yards, Ryan Fitzpatrick did account for three touchdowns in leading the Buffalo Bills to a 34-18 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fitzpatrick threw touchdowns to Stevie Johnson and Scott Chandler to go along with a rushing score. He completed only 9-of-17 attempts. The Buffalo tandem of Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller combined to run for 186 yards. Jackson finished with 109 yards on 25 carries, while Spiller totaled 77 yards -- 44 of which came on a fourth-quarter touchdown -- for the Bills (5-7). Chad Henne was 18-of-41 for 208 yards with one touchdown and an interception for Jacksonville (2-10).
