The Marysville police officer whose daughter was killed by his gun will not face a second manslaughter trial.
Snohomish County prosecutors filed court documents Tuesday dismissing the case, saying they doubted whether another jury would be able to reach a unanimous verdict.
Officer Derek Carlile’s first trial ended earlier this month in a hung jury. He remains on paid leave for a departmental review.
Carlile was charged with second-degree manslaughter after his 7-year-old daughter, Jenna, was shot in the family’s van last March when her 3-year-old brother grabbed his father’s .38-caliber revolver. The children were left alone with the gun for a short time while the van was parked in Stanwood.
Carlile’s defense lawyer called the shooting a tragic mistake.
