Free-agent outfielder B.J. Upton and the Atlanta Braves have agreed to a five-year contract, a person familiar with the deal said.
The deal was expected to be announced today once Upton passes his physical. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.
Several media outlets reported the deal is worth $75.25 million, which would be the largest free-agent contract in team history.
DOUG DECINCES INDICTED
Doug DeCinces, the Orioles’ former All-Star infielder, and three others were indicted on insider trading charges involving the use of information prior to the takeover of a medical device company in California, officials said.
DeCinces, 62, was charged with 42 counts of securities fraud and one count of money laundering. Each fraud count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

The Mariners released infielder Chone Figgins, ending his stay in Seattle … The Reds signed reliever Jonathan Broxton to a three-year contract worth $21 million. … The baseball Hall of Fame’s 37-player ballot was announced featuring, as predicted, first-time eligibles Craig Biggio, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Curt Schilling and Sammy Sosa. Seattle’s Edgar Martinez is one of the holdover candidates. Results will be announced Jan. 9. … Left-hander Andy Pettite signed a one-year deal with the Yankees worth $12 million. … Michael Weiner, head of the players’ union, said there are talks with the commissioner’s office about adding in-season tests for human growth hormone. … Right-hander Pat Neshek and the A’s agreed on a one-year deal, avoiding salary arbitration. Also, Oakland acquired right-hander Sandy Rosario from Boston. … Right-hander Ryan Madson agreed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
