Three people are in custody today on suspicion of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the Nov. 21 shooting of Barbara Giles, a Shelton-area woman who was shot when she answered her door.
According to Dean Byrd, Chief Deputy of the Mason County Sheriff’s Department: the arrested are Giles' former 37-year-old male live-in partner, his 16-year-old daughter and the daughter’s 18-year-old boyfriend, who shot Giles. The 37-year-old man has a child in common with Giles.
The three, who were arrested yesterday, are expected to make court appearances later today.
The shooting was reported at 3:38 a.m. on Nov. 21 on Tyler Lane, about 4 miles north of Shelton. Giles was shot multiple times when she answered her door. She eventually died of her wounds on Saturday at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
An investigation found that miller and his daughter were conspiring to commit murder as early as Nov. 15, based on text messages between the two. The motive appears to be child custody issues between Giles and the 37-year-old.
