A dispute involving two couples at a Tacoma storage facility left one man shot and in critical condition Tuesday night, according to police.

The gunman, believed to be the cousin of the wounded man or his wife, fled after the shooting and was being sought.

Emergency crews were called to South 12th Street and Sprague Avenue just after 4 p.m. following a report of a shooting.

Officers found the wounded man with his wife, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

The shooting happened after two couples were moving items from one storage unit to another and the two men started arguing, Fulghum said.

One of the women told police she went to the other unit, heard a gunshot and returned to find her husband wounded and the other couple gone.

Officers identified the pair that fled, knew the vehicle they were driving and were looking for them Tuesday night, Fulghum said.

The severity of the man’s wounds was not clear, but Tacoma Fire said he was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
