Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., submitted the provision to the $631 billion defense authorization bill. Her amendment mirrors a bill she submitted in June.

WASHINGTON — The Defense Department said Thursday that it’s delaying planned furlough notices to almost 800,000 civilian employees while officials analyze whether the stopgap budget Congress passed can avert some days of unpaid leave.
WASHINGTON — Now that the U.S. House and Senate have passed budgets that are far apart, the focus shifts to two lawmakers who don’t share many ideas but did share a recent breakfast.
Benton Franklin's Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, also known as PFLAG, is co-sponsoring The Climb with the Youth Suicide Prevention Program.
The event is a coordinated hike up Badger Mountain in Richland.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and the hike will begin at 11 a.m.
Schools in Washington state would take a more active role in trying to prevent teen suicide under a bill that has passed the House and is now before the Senate.
