Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis returned to practice on Wednesday and hopes to play again this season.

Lewis has been sidelined with a torn triceps, which he suffered in a Week 6 game against Dallas back in October. Lewis had surgery almost immediately and was placed on injured reserve with a designation to return.

The 17-year veteran linebacker released a statement upon his return to the practice field on Wednesday.

"I'm making progress and will practice some today," Lewis said. "But, the story shouldn't be about me right now. We're playing the Redskins Sunday, and I am not eligible to play. If I can help prepare my team in some way for that game, I will. When I know I will play in a game, or when I play in game, I will say more then.

"For right now, I am excited to be back on the field, and I do plan to play again this season. We'll see how I continue to progress from here."

Lewis is not eligible to play until Dec. 16, when the Ravens host the Denver Broncos.

Meanwhile, outside linebacker Terrell Suggs will try to play through a biceps tear in his right arm. He suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Redskins.

Suggs missed the first six games of the season after suffering a partially torn Achilles tendon in the offseason.

The Ravens sit at 9-3 and hold a two-game lead over Pittsburgh and Cincinnati for first place in the AFC North.
