A gala dinner and auction Dec. 17 will raise money for teen gymnast Jacoby Miles, who was paralyzed Nov. 16 after landing on her neck during a routine dismount.

Miles was paralyzed from the midchest down after the accident. Doctors have said it will be a miracle if she walks again, but they hope she will be able to use her hands.

U.S. Olympians, Hollywood actor Scott Swartz, and radio and TV personalities are on the guest list, organizers say. The event will be emceed by ESPN commentator Brock Huard.

Organizers hope to raise $125,000, which will go toward making the Miles home and vehicle ADA-equipped, for respite care, and to help pay other medical and rehabilitation expenses that insurance does not cover.

Tickets are $100 for the auction and $200 for the VIP Meet and Greet.

Auction items so far include vacations, sports tickets and sky box tickets for the Rihanna concert in April at Key Arena.

The Meet and Greet will start at 5 p.m., with a check-in for the auction following at the Temple Theatre, 47 St. Helens Ave. in Tacoma. There will be a silent auction, a live auction, and dinner will follow at 7 p.m.

Tickets and more information are available at www.goteamjacoby.com. To donate an auction item, email roachgymnastics@hotmail.com.
