KENT CHRISTMAS RUSH FUN RUN

What: A 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) fun run in Kent over a flat, fast course. The event is organized by Kent Parks and Recreation.

What: A 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) fun run in Kent over a flat, fast course. The event is organized by Kent Parks and Recreation.

When: Saturday, first race starts at 9:50 a.m.

Where: Russell Road Park, 24400 Russell Road, Kent

Activities: There will be live music, drawings for prizes and awards for the winners. Prizes will be awarded for the top finishers in each age group and the overall winners.

History: This is the 30th running of the Christmas Rush.

Getting there: From Interstate 5, take the Kent-Des Moines Road exit and drive east toward Kent. Turn left on Meeker Street, and then right on Russell Road. Russell Road Park will be on your right.

Cost: $20, race shirt is $15 extra

Of note: The 5K race starts at 9:50 a.m. and the 10K starts at 10 a.m. Registration for both races starts at 8 a.m. Runners 13 and younger can participate for free. Live music will be performed by the Kentwood High jazz band. The 10K race and 5K walk start at 10 a.m.

  • Leprechaun Dash, foot race is Saturday

    Thousands of runners are expected to take over Columbia Park on Saturday when the 3 Rivers Road Runners stage the annual Leprechaun Dash and St. Patrick Day Foot Race.

    Elementary and middle school students will take off at 9:30 a.m. for the 1-mile Leprechaun Dash. The 10-kilometer St. Patrick’s race starts at 10 a.m. and the 5K at 10:10 a.m.

    Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Kimo’s, 2696 N. Columbia Center Blvd., Richland. Children can run in the Leprechaun Dash for free. The St. Patrick Day Foot Race has a $15 entry fee.

    BELLINGHAM - Whatcom County residents planning a peaceful day in the park Saturday, May 18, should stay away from Lake Padden, because the park will be packed full of families for the Ski to Sea Junior Race.

    About 200 six-person teams will compete in the junior race, which will take over the park from 8 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Saturday.

    The race consists of five legs: running, a three-legged race, biking, soccer and an obstacle course.
