Three people were seriously injured Saturday evening when a car hit them as they crossed Pacific Avenue in Parkland, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The two men and one woman was taken to Tacoma General Hospital. KIRO-TV reported they were in critical condition; State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill was unable to confirm that information.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. at Pacific Avenue and 134th Street South.

The three people were crossing the southbound lanes of Pacific Avenue when an older-model Lexus struck them, Gill said. The collision smashed in the right side of the car’s windshield.

The driver immediately stopped and later told investigators he did not see the three, who were wearing dark clothing, in time to avoid hitting them, Gill said.

Investigators do not believe drugs, alcohol or speed contributed to the accident, and driver is not expected to face charges, Gill said.

The intersection has a designated crosswalk with a center median across Pacific Avenue but there are no traffic signals.

The investigation of the accident closed southbound Pacific Avenue just north of 134th Avenue for about two hours.
