  • Final weekend of season for Mt. Baker Ski Area

    This is the final weekend for skiers and snowboarders at Mt. Baker Ski Area.

    The ski area closes Sunday, April 21, for the season.

    Multiple chairs will be operating out of the White Salmon Base Area, and both the White Salmon lodge and the Raven Hut will be open.

  • Injured backcountry skier rescued near Table Mountain

    A backcountry skier who suffered a broken leg above the Heather Meadows ranger station was rescued by members of the Skagit Mountain Rescue team who happened to be training in the area about 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29.

    Members of Bellingham Mountain Rescue and employees from the Mt. Baker Ski Area assisted in bringing the injured 26-year-old Ohio man by toboggan to the ski area, according to a statement from the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

    He fell in the area of Herman Saddle near Table Mountain, breaking his lower right leg. He was given first aid at the ski area and taken by ambulance to St. Joseph hospital.
