Nearly 100 schools across the state, including several in the South Sound, have been recognized as 2012 Schools of Distinction for improving student achievement.
The recognition for 97 Washington schools is a joint effort by six education groups.
Pierce County Schools of Distinction for 2012 include: Evergreen and Nelson elementary in the Bethel School District; Beachwood, Oakwood and Southgate elementaries, along with Hudtloff Middle School and Lakes High School, in the Clover Park School District; Central Avenue and James Sales elementary and Franklin Pierce High School in the Franklin Pierce School District; Orting High School; Glacier View and Kalles junior high schools in Puyallup; Steilacoom High School; Liberty Ridge Elementary School in Sumner; Stanley Elementary School and Wilson High School in Tacoma; and White River High School in the White River School District. In the Federal Way School District, the schools honored were Technology Access Foundation Academy and Woodmont K-8 School.
