Pierce County products led the way Monday night, when Seattle University took a 75-69 victory over Eastern Washington in Cheney.
Senior Chad Rasmussen, who played at Curtis High and Tacoma C.C., scored 16 points to lead the Redhawks.
Junior Clarence Trent, who grew up in Pierce County and previously played at the University of Washington, had 11 points and nine rebounds against the Eagles.
Seattle shot 50 percent from the field — 59 percent in the second half. The Redhawks (3-3) were ahead 33-30 at halftime and led throughout the second half, though never by more than 12 points.
Freshman Deshaun Sunderhaus scored 10 points for the Redhawks.
Justin Crosgile led EWU with 15 points. Venky Jois had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Parker Kelly also scored 14 points for the Eagles (2-7).
TOP 25 MEN
At No. 15 Georgetown 89, Longwood 53: Otto Porter scored a career-high 22 points, added seven assists and four rebounds and returned for the Hoyas (8-1) after taking an apparent hit to the head in the second half.
Markel Starks scored 17 points, including 4-for-5 accuracy from 3-point range, for Georgetown, which used a 17-5 run over the first 4 minutes of the second half to pull away.
Jeylani Dublin led Longwood (2-8) with 10 points.
HOOSIERS STILL NO. 1
Indiana is No. 1 for a sixth straight week in The Associated Press poll.
The Hoosiers are again followed in the Top 25 by Duke, Michigan and Syracuse. The only changes in Monday’s poll was the order, not who’s ranked.
Florida and Louisville switched places at fifth and sixth. They were followed by Ohio State, Arizona, Kansas and Illinois. The Illini (10-0) beat fellow unbeaten Gonzaga on Saturday, moving into the top 10 for the first time since the next-to-last poll of 2005-06. Gonzaga dropped to 14th.
CARDINAL ON TOP
Stanford remains No. 1 in the women’s poll, narrowly ahead of Connecticut.
The Cardinal had 22 first-place votes Monday, while UConn received 16. Baylor got the other two. Stanford had the week off for exams, while the Huskies beat Maryland and Penn State by 15 points each. The Lady Bears topped Notre Dame by 12 in a rematch of last season’s NCAA championship game.
