A razor clam dig started Tuesday at Twin Harbors beach on the Washington coast south of Westport. The dig continues through Sunday.
Digging is permitted daily after noon at Twin Harbors. Three other beaches will have shorter windows for digging. Mocrocks and Long Beach will open Friday-Sunday. Copalis is scheduled to open Friday and Saturday.
Clam diggers are permitted 15 razor clams per day and all diggers must have appropriate permits and keep their clams in separate buckets. For information, go to wdfw.wa.gov.
RIVERS
Cowlitz: Steelhead still are being caught, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. A few coho are being caught near the barrier dam.
Kalama: Not many fish caught here of late.
Lewis: Some steelhead to be had but action has been slow on the north fork. Colvin Creek upstream to the overhead power lines below Merwin Dam opens Sunday for chinook, hatchery coho and hatchery steelhead.
Washougal: Some steelhead are biting but otherwise action is slow.
LAKES
American: David Anderson of Bill’s Boathouse said there haven’t been many anglers trying here. Local guide Mike Barr recently caught two fish off the boathouse dock using yellow Power Bait. The lake is scheduled to be stocked with 3,500 1-pound rainbow trout this week by the American Lake Improvement Club, Anderson said.
Spanaway: Bud Herlitzka of the Spanaway Park Boat House said “there’s action here if you want to come out.” Fly-fishers are having luck. Dock anglers are catching rainbows with worms and bobbers. Drop your line deep at the south end of the lake to try for browns.
Battle Ground: WDFW reported 4,500 rainbows were planted here Dec. 3.
Chelan: Anton Jones of Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service suggested using glow colored Mack’s Lures Cha Cha Squidders baited with pikeminnow. Troll at 1.2-1.6 mph at a depth of 150-200 feet down lake Wapato Point.
Klineline Pond: The WDFW reported 20 bank anglers kept 32 rainbows and released eight Dec. 3 through Sunday. The pond was planted with 3,200 rainbows on Dec. 4.
Roses: Jones recommended getting here before the lake ices over for excellent rainbow fishing.
SALTWATER
Tacoma: The Point Defiance Boathouse Marina reported fishing has been slow in recent days but black mouth and chinook fishing seem to be picking up again.
South Sound: The area south of the Narrows Bridges is open for crabbing and anglers are doing well when weather permits.
