A coastal flooding advisory and wind advisory are in effect Monday, Dec. 17, according to the National Weather Service.
Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 55 mph were expected during an overnight storm, forecasters said in a statement at the agency's Seattle web page. Strongest winds were expected overnight Sunday.
Monday's forecast calls for rain with a high of 39 degrees. The wind advisory is in effect though 4 p.m.
Winds were expected to be from the southeast Sunday, changing to northeast and then northwest before becoming southwesterly and easing to about 20 mph late Monday morning.
Winds of this magnitude can topple small trees and snap smaller tree branches, possibly causing power outages.
High surf from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. will arrive during a Bellingham Bay high tide of nearly 10 feet at 8:43 a.m. Monday, bringing the possibility of coastal flooding. Waves were expected to range from 3 to 5 feet.
