PUYALLUP: Chief Leschi teacher receives classroom grant

T he Puyallup Valley Branch of American Association of University Women has awarded the 2012 Innovative Teaching Grant to Donna DeNoble, STEM elective teacher from Chief Leschi Schools. The grant is given to teachers (K-12) for innovative projects that extend classroom enrichment and instruction, provide opportunities not available with regular district funds and will benefit a maximum number of students. The grant, with additional district funding, will be used to purchase LEGO simple machines and mechanic kits for the middle school science, technology, engineering and math program.

    State officials named Delta High, in Richland and jointly operated by the Richland, Pasco and Kennewick school districts, as one of six STEM Lighthouse Schools, according to a release from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

    "It's actually kind of like a coaching contract," Principal Deidre Holmberg told the Herald.
