The Bethel School Board has chosen Warren Smith to fill one of its vacant positions.
Smith is a former board member who also served on the State Board of Education for 11 years and on the National Assessment Governing Board for four years. The governing board oversees the National Assessment of Education Progress, the nationwide testing program also known as The Nation’s Report Card.
Smith is expected to take office at the board’s meeting on Jan. 8. His term will expire in November 2013.

The Bethel School Board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. today at the district office, 516 176th St. E., Spanaway, to interview applicants for an open seat on the board. The five candidates are Jennifer Barnstein, Rachel Bacon, Warren Smith, Deborah Jones and Kristin Larson.
