The Chicago Bears announced on Monday they have placed defensive tackle Matt Toeaina on injured reserve due to a knee problem.
A 12-game starter for Chicago in 2011, Toeaina had appeared in just three contests with two starts this season because of various ailments, and had fallen behind youngster Stephen Paea on the depth chart at nose tackle.
The 28-year-old had compiled 40 tackles and two sacks while starting 22 out of 28 games over the previous two seasons.
To fill the available roster spot, the Bears promoted rookie offensive tackle Cory Brandon to the active roster from the practice squad.
