The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is making the Redfish Cabin available to the public for overnight stays during the fall, winter and spring.
The cabin was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and it was renovated in 2010. It’s an administrative building that’s now available for recreation when not in official use.
It’s an “awesome opportunity” for the public, said Julie Thomas, public affairs officer with the Sawtooth National Forest.
The cabin is located on the northern shore of Redfish Lake between the visitor center and the water.
It has a gas stove but no running water. It can accommodate three people and is wheelchair accessible.
The front porch offers stunning views of Redfish Lake and the Sawtooth Wilderness Area.

Season: Nightly rentals are available Oct. 15-April 14. After Nov. 30, access is by skis, snowshoes or snowmobile.
Cost: $65 per night, and a reservation fee may be applicable.
Reservations: Reservations can be made up to six months in advance through recreation.gov or by calling (877) 444-6777 and inquiring about the Redfish Cabin.
