A Richland man was taken to the hospital Thursday after he hit a semi-truck east of Burbank Heights, the Washington State Patrol said.

William A. Pogue, 65, was driving east just after 9 a.m. on Highway 124 when he tried to pass a semi in front of him that was making a left turn, troopers said.

Pogue's 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe collided with the 1994 Peterbuilt semi-truck and trailer, driven by Gerald A. Vance, 68, of Dayton.

Pogue was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland and listed in satisfactory condition Thursday night. Vance was not hurt.

Troopers said unsafe passing was the cause of the wreck, which happened at 9:20 a.m. about 10 miles east of Burbank Heights.
